- Pop Rivets assortment grab kit containing a variety of popular sizes of blind pop rivets, which are a two-part fastener consisting of a shell and a headed stem (mandrel) assembled so the shell can be placed into the work to be fastened. The rivet is 'set' by drawing the stem through the shell, which causes the body to expand/compress to distort and clamp the material securely. After the desired clamping force is achieved, the stem breaks off at a predetermined position and is discarded. A small portion of the stem remains trapped in the bottom of the shell to ensure the clamping force is retained in the joint. Blind rivets are designed to clamp together specific thicknesses of material, if the grip range is less than it should be (the rivet is too long), excessive material will be left on the blind side and more pulls will be required to break-off the mandrel. If the grip range is too large (rivet is too short), insufficient material may be left on the blind side to secure the joint.
- Handpicked in Brisbane Australia: This kit has been hand picked, assembled and packed with care in our Brisbane warehouse. Packed in a tough clear plastic container, the kit contains some of our most popular sizes designed for service, repair and new installations. Replacement packs are available on our website, in different pack configurations to suit the DIYer to the large manufacturer.
- Quantities in the Kits: The kits are handpicked in-house by our staff, there may be a small variation with the quantities per item due to weight or human error, the overall total number of pieces inside the kit should always exceed the total quantity advertised
- Material / Coating: Stainless Steel A2-70 G304 is the most popular grade of stainless steel. It is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and very practical because of its excellent corrosion protection in most environments. Stainless steels are largely non-magnetic but it is common for stainless steel fasteners to show a small degree of magnetism which is a result of work-hardening during the manufacturing process
- Can Stainless corrode?: Stainless steel is corrosion-resistant but not corrosion-proof and corrosion can occur if the material is installed or handled incorrectly. The use of tools and drills made from conventional steel during the installation of stainless steel fasteners may also lead to problems. Even the hardest of tools can produce debris that leaves minute steel particles on the stainless steel fastener surfaces or in pre-drilled holes. It is these particles that often rust when exposed to moisture or oxygen and can result in a stained or tarnished finish to the stainless steel material
- Helpful Information: As a general rule, the shell material of the rivet should be the same as the material under the head, ie, if aluminium is fastened to steel, use steel rivets. Part of the stem remains in the shell after setting. In the case of steel stems, this part may rust, an undesirable attribute in many circumstances. In these cases, choose a rivet with a stainless or aluminium stem
