Australia Post Untracked Letter Delivery Insurance

We have seen a large increase in late, lost and stolen untracked letters and with no tracking, there isn't anything we can do. To help protect your purchase we have added a $1 insurance option in the checkout for orders under $30 and / or weight less than 500grams.

The insurance will cover:

1. Orders deemed lost if not delivered within the estimated delivery on your invoice.
2. Covers damaged deliveries. Photos will be required.

The insurance will NOT cover:

1. Incorrect addresses or addresses missing detail.
2. Orders not delivered but still within the estimated timeframe on your invoice.

Untracked Letter Delivery FAQ:

What is an untracked letter?
It is an order that is under $30 and / or weighing less 250 grams. They are usually sent in a grey padded bubble bag, the size of an envelope and fits inside the slot of most letterboxes. Sometimes we do send the very small orders like one washer or split pin in a small envelope (same as a letter)

How do I know if my order is going to be sent as untracked letter delivery?
If you order is under $30 and / or weighing less 250 grams (exception is bulky items like Allthread or kits where they may weigh under 250 grams but by default will be shipped with tracking). All orders over 250grams are automatically upgraded to a tracked service via our system.

Can I track the progress on my untracked letter delivery?
No, untracked letter deliveries do not have tracking. Once you have been informed by email that your order has been shipped we can not track your order.

Can I choose to have signature required for a untracked letter?
No, untracked letter deliveries do not have a signature option.

What is a late or lost delivery?
Late or lost orders are orders that have not been delivered 2 days after the estimated delivery time on your invoice.

Why are letters taking longer than they use to?
Australia Post only delivery untracked letters every 2nd business day, some outer regions it is every 3rd business day. Whenever there is a delay with mail, letter deliveries are not treated as priority and are left to last during busy periods. Deliveries to the following regions of Australia are traditionally slower or tend to be inconsistent: WA, SA, NT, TAS and remote parts of every state.

Is there any issue getting untracked letters delivered to a business addresses or an unit block?
One of the biggest problems we have is deliveries to business addresses and unit blocks / high rises. The postie often puts the letter in the wrong unit slot or leaves it on top of the mailing boxes for anyone to grab.

What will the difference between choosing insurance and not choosing it be?
By choosing insurance, orders that are late or lost are prioritised and actioned by our office once the 2 day grace period has passed. This is based on the estimated delivery timeframe you can find on your invoice or email.

If you haven't chosen insurance: Orders late or lost will NOT be resent until 7 business days has passed the estimated delivery timeframe.

What happens if I do not choose insurance?
If you do choose insurance and your order hasn't arrived within the estimated timeframe on your invoice, there is a waiting period of 7 business days from the last day of the estimated date on your invoice. Once that date has passed, and the order still hasn't arrived, we will confirm the address is correct with you, and if it is, we will resend. The resend is sent as an untracked letter delivery (same as what you choose when you placed the order). You can upgrade the service to a tracked service but the cost of the upgrade is your responsibility.

Example of an order that does not have insurance:
You place an order on Monday 24th March at 11.30am, you choose the free untracked letter delivery option, the estimated delivery timeframe on your invoice is between Monday 31st March - Wednesday 2nd April. The order hasn't arrived by the COB Wednesday 2nd April, and you contact us via email or the contact us on our home page. (You can ring us to discussed but you do have to follow up with an email). At this stage we do not classify it as late or lost as there is a 7 day grace period, if your order still hasn't been delivered by COB Monday 14th April, it is classed as lost and we will resend at our cost. The resend will be sent as untracked letter delivery (the same option you choose when you placed the order).

You can upgrade the service to a tracked service from as low as $7, this cost is your responsibility. Once paid, we will resend your order.

Why has this order taken a lot longer than my last order?
This is one of the problems with untracked letter deliveries, Australia Post do not prioritise them. If they are short staffed and have volume freight, especially during holidays, promo periods, natural disasters like floods and fires they will prioritise tracked freight over letter delivery everytime. This is one of the biggest reasons why freight is delayed.

What is the cost of insurance?
$1 inc GST
